Meet BOWEN, a free public legal AI model for New Zealand.
I built this project over summer. Thank you to those people who've helped test Bowen so far. The idea came through work chairing the Canterbury Regional Council's AI Working Group.
BOWEN uses a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system, which means it's trained on and has direct access to a data bank of New Zealand legislation; currently covering 77 pieces of legislation. (I am hoping to expand this - there are approximately 20,000 pieces of legislation in NZ, if you want to assist with this email below).
bowenpublic.com will always be 100% free. It's a public tool, built for everyone. Queries are collected for analysis but are anonymous.
One thing testers asked was "why wouldn't I just use chat for this?"
My response is test it, ask BOWEN and your go to model the same legal question and test the answer and references.
Ask him hard questions, and if you find any bugs, wrong answers or ux ideas, let me know.
